Only when you are ten, can you go from watching Pretty Little Liars to Lala Loopsey.  I love this about Emma.

Last night I took Annie shopping for a dress for her eighth grade promotion dance.  We had such a good time.  She is beautiful, and I love being with her.  We stopped to get ice cream on the way home because she said we were having such a great night we needed to end with ice cream.  On the way home, we sang together to "I Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore."  It was as precious a moment to me as cuddling her when she was a baby.  Having her in class this year has been an amazing experience.  I will miss her so much.

Monday, March 18, 2013

I distinctly remember the last night that I was pregnant with Annie.  I was scheduled for an induction the next day, and I soaked in the time she spent kicking me.  I knew that I would never feel that again.  The next day everything would change.  It was scary, but so exciting.  I knew she was ready to make her big arrival, and I was ready too.

I feel oddly the same as I think about taking her for high school orientation tomorrow.  The only difference is that I'm not sure I'm ready, but, just like every other stage of her life, I am confident that she is.

Last night Emma was in the fifth grade junior miss.  She danced, she did push-ups, she spoke to the audience twice.  Watching her do these things with confidence and little, if any, nervousness, is still amazing to me.  That this little girl who went years without speaking to anyone will now talk and sing in front of a crowd, truly is a miracle.

She looked beautiful.  After working so hard for five weeks, I was very proud of her.  She didn't win, but she smiled and had fun the whole time.

When we got in the car, Sarah Beth began to cry.  She said, "I wanted Emma to win!"  I didn't even realize that she fully understood what was happening, and she had never spoken of her disappointment for Emma while we remained in the gym.

I explained to Sarah Beth that Emma did win because she did such a good job and had so much fun.  Sarah Beth replied, "But she didn't get a lot of medals.  I wanted her to get a lot of medals."

Winning was never discussed throughout this process, but Sarah Beth figured out that was the goal, and she thought that her big sister should have been the one to win.

Honestly, I'll take Sarah Beth's love for her big sister over those medals any day.

The two little girls are on the den floor with their blankets practicing their letters on the ipad.  The best part is listening to them encourage each other.  Sarah Beth just said, "You did awesome!"

Emma is curled up in my lap asleep.  Annie is upstairs doing something on her own after cooking some very good chicken for supper tonight.  My girls are so sweet.

Things Sarah Beth has said lately (when she isn't still singing 'Joy to the World' and 'We Need a Little Christmas'):

"It's so good, it's even gooder!"  She was talking about handitizer (hand sanitizer).

She was at a ballgame with Tim Friday night.  It was loud while the band was playing.  She had been to the chili supper and had some chili and a sandwich.  The first game was almost over, and she looked at Tim and said, "I have my Sprite and M & Ms.  Can you take me home now? It's loud in here."

Sarah Beth is such a sweet little friend.  She had two birthday parties yesterday, and it made me really happy to see how kind and gentle she is with her friends who are younger than her.  She loves to be with her friends, but she is also confident enough to do her own thing--as long as I am right there beside her. :)

When I got home last night with Sarah Beth, Emma wanted to curl up in my lap.  So did Maggie and Sarah Beth. They all had a turn, but I love that after all this time, Emma is still a little snuggle bunny.

Annie has made her periodic table of whatever for my class.  She chose presidents and has the last four presidents and their cabinets as her topic.  I was really impressed.  I have loved having her in class.  She does such a good job answering questions--often making observations about the content that no one makes the rest of the day.

Maggie got so excited when we put up our Christmas tree tonight.  She loved it!  When we turned out the lights, she was even more excited just dancing through the room.  Yesterday she was with Tim at a football game.  They were in the club level, and while he was talking, she walked right up to a coach, stuck out her hand, and said, "I'm Maggie.  What's your name?"  He did the only thing he could do.  He laughed and answered her.  Tim went over to her, and she told him, "I didn't hug him, and I didn't tell him I love him."  She's learning.  Haha.

Thanksgiving

"Sarah Beth, what are you thankful for today?"

"I'm thankful for jumping pillow poop."

Okay.

Maggie says, "I'm thankful for eyes to see and ears to hear.  I'm thankful for nose to smell and fingers to touch."

I'm thankful for these two silly little girls that make every day a lot more fun!

Tim went upstairs to help Annie study for a science test tonight.  It didn't take long before she was cracking up.  I love that girl.
Emma was practicing for all-state choir tonight. She was singing Ave Maria and said, "I like this song, and I don't like this song."  I had a feeling I knew what was coming.  She continued, "I like it because it is short.  I don't like it because it is in Latin.  The only words I know are Jesus and A-men!"  The best part was the way she drew out Jesus and Amen in a long, southern drawl.  It was great.

Tonight Maggie was in bed and stretched her little arms up toward Tim and me.  She said, "Come here.  This is going to be so awesome."  Then she gave us both a big hug.  She was right.  It was awesome.

I love that Sarah Beth and Emma fell asleep holding hands tonight.  : )

Yesterday at the pool Maggie decided to show a friend of mine, someone she had never met before, how she can go underwater.  First she had to get her goggles on.  Then she ducked her head underwater and held it there for a couple of seconds.  She stood back up and before anyone could comment, she said, "I'm awesome!"  We both agreed.  Ha.

Today Sarah Beth threw Maggie's Duffy bear.  Maggie was not too happy with this.  She looked at Sarah Beth and said, "Can I throw your Duffy bear?"  Sarah Beth said, "No."  Maggie replied, "Then don't throw mine!"  She's heard that before!

Emma was watching Beauty and the Beast with my dad.  Lumiere did something to Cogworth, and Emma said, "If he ever touched me like that, I'd blow his candles out."  Emma is getting so big.  Recently she has been doing laundry, and she cleaned out the entire laundry room.  It was totally her idea!

Sarah Beth tried to kiss Tim like Princess Jasmine the other night.  She put her lips right on his and started turning her head.

Sarah Beth and Maggie love singing the Bible school songs.  Sarah Beth shakes her little behind to "Up From the Grave."  That could be a first for that song!  I love the way she says, "Hal-Ye-Lu-La!"  Maggie just sings and giggles.

Annie is the calm in the midst of all of it.  She has done so well with the two little girls lately.  She has been babysitting and doing a really good job of it!

Summer break and all four girls are on the trampoline having a picnic.  It was Sarah Beth's idea.  It probably won't be long until they decide to play their princess game.  :-)

Monday, May 7, 2012

I love the way Sarah Beth says things.  "We gotta be rearry careful."  "I love you Very much."  She puts a lot of emphasis on her R's.  It is so sweet.

Tonight she told me she wanted noodle soup for supper.  She chose the kind in a box and wanted to help make it.  I let her help me put the water in the pot and put a lid on it.  She was so proud of herself.  She put potholders on and clapped her little hands together.  She was so happy.  When Tim got home, she looked up at him from the stool she was sitting on and said, "I want you to take me to get pizza."  She had a sweet little smile on her face, and it was pretty clear that he wasn't going to hesitate to say yes.

She had trouble falling asleep tonight, and she said, "I haven't had seconds on my bottle, Mommy."  I didn't tell her that at three years old, she shouldn't really be having firsts on a bottle.

Monday, April 30, 2012

Tonight I listened as Sarah Beth "read" Goodnight Gorilla and The Very Hungry Caterpillar to herself.  She did it perfectly.  She loves those books and Chuga, Chuga Choo Choo the best.  I love reading them to her while she hold my thumb and rubs my thumb nail with her little finger.  It is so precious.

Thursday, December 15, 2011

At Mimi's house, Sarah Beth was eating M & M's.  She had three and ate two.  When it was time to eat the third one she made the M & M say, "Where did my friends go?  I don't know!"  She popped it in her mouth and said, "Oh!  There they are!"

The Little Things I'm Hearing Today

While they were playing baby dolls, Sarah Beth said, "Us going to Target."

Sarah Beth was going to read a book to Maggie, and she said, "I can't read Jesus 'til you sitting down."

Maggie fell down.  I heard it, but I was in the other room.  Sarah Beth got to her first and said, "Maggie you fall down?"  Maggie said, "Yes."  Sarah Beth said, "You okay?"  Not much of an answer, so she said, "Come on; let's go find Mommy."

Where has she heard that?

Maggie was running through the house, and Sarah Beth said, "Maggie, settle down!"  She has been such a little mother to Maggie lately.
